Gullfoss Waterfall
Gullfoss, often referred to as the "Golden Falls," is a majestic waterfall located in the canyon of the Hvítá river in southwest Iceland. It is a prominent feature along Iceland's Golden Circle tourist route, approximately 120 kilometers (75 miles) from Reykjavik.
What makes Gullfoss particularly striking is its two-tiered cascade plunging into a deep and rugged canyon. The first drop is 11 meters (36 feet) high, followed by a second drop of 21 meters (69 feet), creating a powerful and dramatic display of water rushing through the rocky terrain. The name "Golden Falls" originates from the phenomenon where the glacial sediment in the water gives it a golden-brown hue, particularly noticeable under certain lighting conditions.
